Goals of Young Adults in Action

  • Provide young adults with the opportunity to engage in an open dialogue with Redemptorists, community advocates and each other.
  • Cultivate an attitude of compassion for people in need living in Winnipeg
  • By serving people who are in need, provide young adults with a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with Christ.
  • Promote fellowship and community among young adults in different church communities

Learning first . . .

The first gathering happens on the same day of every month. This is an input session where different people who work in the inner-city will come to give a presentation on their area of expertise. They will present their perspective on the population they serve.

Local Redemptorists and lay people will also facilitate input sessions. They will explore the topics of Redemptorist Spirituality and social justice.

. . . action second!

The second time we all meet will be to experience hands-on what it is like to be on the frontlines serving others. This may mean spending an afternoon in a soup kitchen, touring an inner-city organization, preparing a meal, etc. The possibilities are endless. Feedback from the group is necessary so that we are able to explore areas that are of interest to everyone

Compassion

In Jesus’ time “the poor” were beggars, public sinners, tax collectors, prostitutes, widows and orphans. Who are the people in need in our society today?

              -People who are homeless
              -Sex trade workers
              -Young mothers
              -People living in poverty
              -Elderly people
              -The spiritually poor
              -and many more . . .

Countless times in scripture Jesus is “moved with compassion” by the hurting people that he met. He chose to live this life among these people, coming to their aid, consoling them and healing them.

We are called to be Jesus’ hands and feet today; to allow ourselves to be moved with compassion to reach out to those around us.
